Dynabrade opened its doors on April 1, 1969. Since then, we have been committed to manufacturing in the USA. Other companies have moved their operations offshore and returned, but we have never left. Our first location was in Tonawanda, NY and since then we have grown into our current headquarters, based in Clarence, NY.
Why do we stay in America?
Our founder Walter Welsch, believed in the American spirit. In 1951, he started working for the 3M company selling coated
abrasives. Buffalo/Rochester was his first sales territory and where he discovered people using abrasive belts on jet engine blades.
At one of his accounts, Wurlitzer, he witnessed a worker hand-filing square holes in an aluminum casting that was used as a
jukebox grill. The idea quickly hit him that there was an need for a portable abrasive belt tool. A 1/8"-1/2" wide abrasive belt running over a 5/8" diameter contact
wheel would file those holes much faster. This was the birth of the Dynafile® Abrasive Belt Tool.
Keeping with Dynabrade's roots, we strive to source any part used when assembling our tools that we don't make in house from other American manufacturers. Most are within 500 miles of our facility. This helps control our supply chain costs and allows us to keep demand met.
As our tool line expands, we are looking towards the future. Dynabrade focuses on innovation and with that we have many projects in the research and design phase to further expand our offering. Just like our founder, we are continuing his entrepreneurial spirit and pushing Dynabrade as a leader in abrasive power tools.
There are some things you cannot replace, and at Dynabrade, one of those things is our employees. Our team is filled with loyal, dedicated, and hardworking individuals and we are happy to continue harnessing their spirit. Being "Made In USA "is more than just a "catch-phrase" to Dynabrade, it's our way of business.
